DP/Director Andy Swartz got in touch as he had a Zimmermann fashion campaign to shoot.

The location was an insane house in Joshua Tree. Initially, Andy was talking about using Steadi, the more I thought about what we had to shoot and how to cover it, the more the Arri Trinity 2 seemed the more versatile tool. After some conversations with Producer Anna, it was agreed Trinity was on the job!

As this was a fashion film, it's all about covering the garments in the best possible way and in the shortest time. We were piggybacking the Stills Photography campaign led by Photographer Benny Horne. This happens a lot in Fashion, Stills is the primary concern and the video crew only gets 5-8mins per look to cover it, before the model goes off to change. We shot around 15 looks.

With the Trinity I could cover the shoes, bag, accessories and still boom up to the models face all in the space of a few seconds, giving options for individual shots, cuts and at the same time constructing longer continuous shots that Andy could use if he decided to.

I programmed the head so it could rotate by the touch a button on my master grip. Being able to do rotations physically gave the piece an extra quality. The client, agency and even make up department really love the spinning camera and Andy cut them in beautifully.

Up until this point, I had only flown the Arri Alexa 35, Mini LF and Sony Venice 2 on the Trinity 2. Andy has his own camera a RED Komodo X. I was a little concerned about this until I found out a good buddy of mine and fellow Steadi and Trinity Op Andrew Fletcher had the Ignite Cage for it. That combined with the Angenieux EZ-2 15-40mm and some skills from top 1st AC Josh Ruffner we got it balanced perfectly and ready to shoot the Zimmermann Campaign on the Arri Trinity 2.

Shooting fashion is so much fun, the Photo team were incredibly welcoming and kind, the model Aivita Musa was such a great mover, which is more important than you might think.

Kyle one of the Photo assistants had some cool tunes playing, Andy kindly gave me lots of freedom to be creative and find shots, we all got in vibe!

If you're looking to shoot a Fashion Campaign, then I'd love to join you!
